VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026 has reached its knockout phase, with the group stage complete and eight teams still in contention for the world championship. As of October 5, the tournament is on the first of two scheduled dark days before the playoffs begin on October 7. Riot Games lists the event as running through October 18, when the Grand Final will decide the 2026 VALORANT world champion.
The final playoff field is 100 Thieves, NRG, G2 Esports, LOUD, Paper Rex, T1, Nongshim RedForce and Team Vitality. The regional split is especially notable: all four Americas representatives made it through, Pacific has three teams left, EMEA is represented only by Team Vitality, and no VCT China team survived the group stage.
LOUD and T1 claimed the last two playoff places on October 4. LOUD defeated Global Esports 2-0, while T1 beat FUT Esports 2-0, completing the eight-team bracket. T1's qualification also gave the organization its first top-eight finish at a VALORANT Champions event, according to Esports Insider.
The home-region storyline has gone the other way. EDward Gaming, JD Gaming, TYLOO and Xi Lai Gaming were all eliminated before the playoffs, meaning Champions Shanghai will continue without a Chinese team despite the event being held in China.
The first upper-bracket matches are scheduled for October 7 and 8. Riot's Philippines schedule lists NRG vs T1 at 9:00 AM PHT and Paper Rex vs LOUD at 12:00 PM PHT on October 7. On October 8, 100 Thieves face G2 Esports at 9:00 AM PHT, followed by Team Vitality vs Nongshim RedForce at 12:00 PM PHT.
The playoffs use a double-elimination format. One loss sends a team to the lower bracket, while a second loss ends its tournament. That structure gives every remaining contender some room to recover, but the margin for error narrows quickly once the bracket begins.
Americas enters the playoffs with the strongest numerical position because half of the remaining field comes from the region. Paper Rex, T1 and Nongshim RedForce keep Pacific heavily represented, while Team Vitality carries EMEA alone. The absence of any VCT China team also guarantees that the host region will not lift the trophy this year.
For viewers following from the Philippines, the next meaningful checkpoint is the morning of October 7, when NRG and T1 open the playoff stage. With only eight teams left and the double-elimination bracket about to start, Champions Shanghai is now at the point where every series directly reshapes the route to the October 18 Grand Final.
