New Surface Pro 12 and Laptop 13 Start Shipping With Snapdragon X2 Plus
Microsoft begins sales in select markets of its lighter Surface pair, promising faster graphics and local AI while Philippine availability remains unconfirmed.

Microsoft's smaller Surface machines have reached their next milestone. The second-generation Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch, both powered by Snapdragon X2 Plus, were scheduled to become available on October 13, 2026, in select markets. They are not entirely new designs. The pitch is that familiar lightweight Windows hardware now has more headroom for graphics, local AI and everyday work.
The official Surface announcement came on September 23, so this week's story is about the start of sales rather than a surprise launch. Microsoft lists a US starting price of approximately ₱72,337 (US$1,149.99) for the Surface Pro and ₱75,420 (US$1,199.00) for the Surface Laptop. Those peso amounts are exchange-rate estimates using ₱62.9025 per dollar on October 13, not official Philippine retail prices. Microsoft has not established Philippine availability or local pricing in the cited announcement.
A more capable compact Surface Pro
The 12-inch Surface Pro remains a fanless two-in-one designed to move between a tablet and a laptop-style setup. Microsoft says the latest version brings a 500-nit PixelSense display, 25% brighter than its predecessor, plus a new Black color option. The company also says web browsing lasts about an hour longer in its testing, although battery life depends heavily on brightness, wireless use and workload.
A magnetic Slim Pen and optional keyboard are central to the experience, but they are not included in every purchase. That matters when comparing prices with a conventional laptop. A buyer who wants the pen-and-keyboard setup should add the actual local accessory cost before deciding whether the entry price makes sense.
Microsoft also introduced Ink Canvas, a pen-first workspace that can turn sketches and handwriting into AI-assisted actions. The feature was scheduled to reach supported Windows devices on October 13. Microsoft says AI capabilities can require a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription and usage limits apply. It is worth separating the basic canvas experience from subscription-powered features rather than assuming everything is free.
The 13-inch Laptop sticks to a familiar formula
The Surface Laptop 13-inch is a thin, fanless clamshell with a full-size backlit keyboard, precision touchpad, aluminum body and 3:2 touchscreen. Microsoft advertises a 500-nit display and up to 22.5 hours of battery life under its specified local video playback test. That figure is not a promise of 22.5 hours of gaming, video calls or heavy browser multitasking.
For both machines, Microsoft's internal comparisons claim up to 17% faster office productivity, more than 60% faster graphics and up to 95% faster local AI inference against the previous Snapdragon X Plus generation, depending on the workload and device. These are manufacturer test results, not independent benchmarks. Early reviews and application compatibility checks are still important, especially for Windows users with older drivers or specialized software.
The new mouse and business options
Microsoft's accompanying Surface Mouse adds haptic feedback, a customizable action button and Bluetooth 6.0. Its US starting price is approximately ₱5,032 (US$79.99), again an exchange-rate estimate rather than a Philippine store price. The mouse is meant to make clicks, window snapping and other interactions feel more tactile, but how useful that is will depend on the apps and personal preference.
Commercial availability for the new Surface pair also begins October 13 in select markets. The business-oriented Pro can offer optional 5G connectivity, with availability depending on market and carrier. IT teams get the familiar Surface management and security stack, including TPM 2.0 and Microsoft Pluton support.
What to check before buying in the Philippines
There is a practical catch for Filipino buyers: the official announcement does not say that these configurations are launching in the Philippines on October 13. An international product page is not proof of local stock, official warranty coverage or authorized service. Before ordering through an importer, confirm the exact SKU, keyboard layout, power adapter, regional warranty terms and return policy.
Snapdragon-powered Windows machines are attractive for efficiency, but Windows on Arm compatibility still deserves attention. Verify that your work VPN, printer, specialized utilities and any games with kernel-level anti-cheat support the device before purchasing. Do not assume a benchmark percentage will translate directly to your daily applications.
The new Surface Pro and Laptop look like thoughtful refinements rather than a dramatic redesign. Their value will depend on real battery testing, accessories, software compatibility and whether official local pricing makes them competitive with other thin Windows laptops.
