Steam Next Fest Returns October 19: Free Demos and the Philippine Start Time
Valve’s October 2026 Next Fest runs for one week. Here is when it opens in the Philippines, how the demo event works and what to check before installing.

Steam Next Fest returns on October 19, 2026, giving PC players another week to try upcoming games before deciding what belongs on their wishlists. Valve’s official Steamworks schedule puts the event at October 19 through October 26, both at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. In the Philippines, that means the festival opens at 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, and closes at 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27.
This is a demo showcase, not another Steam Autumn Sale. That distinction matters for anyone waiting for discounted full games. Next Fest is built around playable samples, developer conversations and discovery of games that have not yet launched. Demos are generally free to download, although availability, performance and the amount of playable content vary by title. Valve has not promised that every participating demo will remain downloadable after the event.
Why October's event is worth watching
Steam's calendar is crowded in October. Cooking Fest begins October 12, while Next Fest follows a week later. The two events serve different purposes: Cooking Fest highlights a particular type of game, while Next Fest introduces games still in development across multiple genres. A player interested in strategy, cozy simulations, horror or action can use the same week to sample several very different projects without buying the finished versions.
Valve says participating games must have a public store page and a publicly playable demo by the time Next Fest begins. Eligible titles are upcoming releases, rather than previously released games repackaged as demos. The company also limits each game to one Next Fest appearance. Those rules help make the event a discovery tool instead of a permanent carousel of the same promotional builds.
The developer-facing schedule shows that a press preview started on October 8 for teams that opted in. That does not mean every demo is already public for all players. Some developers release their demo early; others wait until the official opening. A press preview listing should not be treated as confirmation that a Philippine Steam account can install a particular build today.
How to find demos worth your time
Start with the official Steam Next Fest information and the event section of Steam once the festival goes live. Browse by genres you actually play, then check each game's store page for language support, controller compatibility, system requirements and whether the demo has its own install button.
Wishlisting is useful even if a demo does not convince you immediately. It lets you follow later launch announcements and helps separate games you want to revisit from games you simply sampled. For games with an announced release date, compare the demo's age with the developer's latest update notes. A demo can represent an earlier build and may not include every feature planned for launch.
PC specifications deserve more attention than promotional trailers. A short demo may compile shaders, download additional files or ask for more storage than its advertised download size. On a laptop or handheld, check the minimum GPU and operating system requirements before committing to a large install. If the developer does not publish Steam Deck compatibility, do not assume that a controller icon guarantees a good handheld experience.
What the festival does not guarantee
Next Fest is not a guarantee of quality, a release date or a finished game. A strong demo can still lead to a delayed launch, while a rough demo can improve considerably before release. The event also does not require developers to provide a permanent free version. Players should expect some demos to disappear or change after October 26.
The best way to use the week is to keep a small shortlist, try games that suit your hardware, and record one concrete impression after each session: whether the controls work, whether performance is stable, and whether the core loop makes you want to play again. That produces a better wishlist than relying on a trailer montage.
Philippine schedule at a glance
Valve's published opening is October 19 at 10:00 a.m. PDT, equivalent to October 20 at 1:00 a.m. Philippine Standard Time. The published closing is October 26 at 10:00 a.m. PDT, equivalent to October 27 at 1:00 a.m. in the Philippines. Those conversions assume the announced Pacific daylight time schedule remains unchanged.
No purchase is needed to browse the event or try available free demos. A Steam account, compatible PC and sufficient download space are the practical requirements. Check individual demo pages for regional availability and supported languages. The official schedule remains the best source if Valve changes the timing before launch.
