Samsung has introduced the Galaxy A18 and Galaxy A08 in Vietnam, putting long software support and familiar AI features into a more affordable tier of phones. The October 12 announcement gives the A18 a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen and triple rear cameras, while the A08 emphasizes a large 6,000mAh battery. Both use MediaTek's Helio G99+ processor, carry an IP64 dust-and-water-resistance rating and come with a promise of up to six generations of operating-system upgrades and six years of security updates.
The important geographic distinction is that this is a Vietnamese launch. Samsung has not announced Philippine prices or local availability in the source used for this report. Readers should not treat converted prices as local suggested retail prices or assume that every regional feature and storage configuration will be identical if the phones later reach the Philippines.
Galaxy A18: the stronger display and camera package
The A18's 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display is its clearest differentiator. Samsung pairs it with the Helio G99+ and LPDDR5 memory, plus RAM Plus, which uses available storage as virtual memory. Virtual RAM is not a substitute for physical RAM, so buyers should still compare the actual memory configuration when choosing a model.
Samsung lists a 50MP main camera, 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro camera. That makes the A18 more flexible on paper than the A08 for group shots and wider scenes. Camera quality, low-light performance and video stabilization still need independent testing; sensor resolution alone cannot establish image quality.
Vietnamese pricing begins at VND 6,590,000 for 4GB/128GB, with 6GB/128GB at VND 7,190,000 and 8GB/128GB at VND 8,490,000. At an indicative conversion of PHP 0.002425 per dong, those are approximately ₱15,981 (US$254.61), ₱17,436 (US$277.79) and ₱20,588 (US$328.02). These are currency estimates from Vietnam prices, not Philippine retail quotations.
Galaxy A08: battery life is the headline
The A08 uses the same Helio G99+ family and upgraded LPDDR5 memory, but its standout published feature is the 6,000mAh battery. Samsung positions it for long sessions of video, messaging and social apps. Actual endurance will depend on screen brightness, network conditions and usage, and the company’s launch announcement does not provide an independently measured battery test.
The rear camera setup includes a 50MP autofocus main camera and 2MP depth sensor, with an 8MP front camera. Vietnam pricing is VND 4,790,000 for 4GB/64GB and VND 5,590,000 for 4GB/128GB, or roughly ₱11,616 (US$185.06) and ₱13,556 (US$215.97) at the same reference conversion. The A08 began selling in Vietnam on September 28; the A18 goes on sale there on October 12.
AI features and long-term support
Samsung says both models support Circle to Search with Google, alongside tools that can help identify clothing or music and work with supported AI assistants and apps. These are manufacturer-described capabilities, not a claim that every AI action will be available in every country, language or third-party application. Buyers should check local availability and any account or connectivity requirements.
The IP64 rating is useful, but it is not a license to submerge the phones. It indicates protection against dust ingress and water splashes under specified test conditions, not full waterproofing. Samsung also lists Knox Vault and the six-generation, six-year software support commitment. The support promise is a meaningful consideration for buyers who keep a budget phone for several years, although rollout timing can vary by model and market.
What Philippine buyers should watch
The phones look relevant to the Philippine entry-level and lower-midrange market, but their value cannot be judged without local prices. Samsung's official Vietnam announcement provides a starting point for specifications, not a Philippine launch confirmation.
If Samsung brings them locally, compare the official Philippine SKU, included charger, storage, LTE bands, warranty and price against existing Galaxy A models and similarly priced competitors. A Vietnam-to-peso conversion omits tax, distribution costs, retailer promotions and regional pricing decisions. Until Samsung Philippines publishes a local listing, treat any peso amount as a rough reference rather than a purchase recommendation.
