Permafrost Brings Four-Player Survival to a Frozen Post-Apocalyptic World

SpaceRocket Games lists October 9 for its Early Access survival sandbox, with shelter networks, a companion dog and demanding winter conditions.

Survival games often make hunger and hostile creatures the biggest threats. Permafrost puts the weather at the center. The story-driven sandbox from SpaceRocket Games and publisher Toplitz Productions lists October 9, 2026 as its Steam Early Access release date, inviting players into a post-apocalyptic Earth where a catastrophe has left the world in a deep freeze.

A frozen world built around preparation

You play as a Rook, an engineer following a radio signal from a missing friend. The setting mixes abandoned cities, wilderness, factions and broken machinery. Exploration is not just about finding a new landmark. You gather supplies, restore equipment and create a network of shelters so you can venture farther without freezing on the way back.

The studio describes storms, frostbite and exposure as core survival pressures. It is a different rhythm from shooters that constantly push players into firefights. Planning a route, repairing a machine and getting everyone home can matter as much as winning a fight. A rescued dog accompanies the player and can scout, warn about danger and help carry supplies.

Solo or up to four players

Permafrost supports solo play and online cooperative sessions for up to four players total. The Early Access description says the main survival systems, multiple biomes, hundreds of items, building blueprints, crafting recipes, opening story quests and co-op are implemented. The developer plans to expand biomes, missions, enemies, vehicles and quality-of-life features while collecting feedback.

That roadmap is not a promise of immediate content. The studio expects Early Access to last at least twelve months and has not committed to a final release date. Players looking for a finished narrative should treat the current build as an evolving project.

Can your PC run it?

Steam lists Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3500, 16GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 590 8GB, DirectX 12 and 30GB of storage as minimum requirements. The recommended GPU rises to an RTX 3070 Ti 8GB or Radeon RX 6750 XT 12GB, with 16GB RAM still listed. These are developer-published requirements, not independent performance tests.

For players in the Philippines, a co-op survival game can be a strong fit for a regular friend group, but it is worth checking regional store availability, local pricing and early player reports before committing. We did not verify a Philippine retail price and are not presenting a converted estimate as an official SRP.

The most interesting question is whether the shelter network and harsh-weather systems stay compelling after the first few hours. Permafrost has a clear survival identity on paper. Its long-term value will depend on how well the studio develops the world through Early Access.
