Kingston NV3 1TB Review: A Budget SSD for the Right Workload

The NV3’s headline speeds look attractive for a budget build, but independent testing warns that large sustained writes can expose its limits.

If a PC is running out of room for games and everyday files, a 1TB NVMe drive can be a practical next step. Kingston lists the NV3 1TB as an M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe drive with sequential reads up to 6,000MB/s and writes up to 4,000MB/s. Those are manufacturer specifications, not a promise that every file copy will run at those speeds.

Where it fits

For example, if your current drive holds Windows, a few large games and work documents, another 1TB drive can give the library breathing room. Check that the motherboard has a free M.2 slot, supports the drive’s length and provides cooling if your case or board requires it. Compare the current Shopee price with other PCIe 4.0 drives before deciding; budget models are most compelling when the price is genuinely lower.

What independent testing adds

Tom’s Hardware reviewed a 2TB NV3 sample and described the series as a reasonable budget drive with performance limits. Its test found sustained writes can slow after the fast cache fills, and its article notes the controller and flash components can vary. That review sample was 2TB, so its measured result is not a direct benchmark of the 1TB listing. It is still a useful warning if your workload regularly copies hundreds of gigabytes at a time.

Why buy it? Consider the NV3 if you want inexpensive capacity for game installs and routine storage, its local price beats better-reviewed alternatives, and you are not relying on long continuous writes. If you edit large video files or move huge project folders every day, look for independent sustained-write tests of the exact capacity and consider a drive with more consistent performance.
