Gears of War: E-Day PC Requirements and the Best Hardware Upgrades

The Coalition targets 1080p, 1440p and 4K at 60 FPS across three PC tiers. Here is what you actually need to upgrade, and what you can keep.

By ByteSized tech

Gears of War: E-Day launches with unusually clear PC targets, and the official requirements make one thing obvious: you do not need to rebuild your entire PC just to play it.

The Coalition lists three launch tiers. Minimum targets 1080p at 60 FPS, Recommended targets 1440p at 60 FPS, and Ultra targets 4K at 60 FPS.

Minimum PC requirements

The Minimum profile targets Medium settings at 1080p and 60 FPS.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7 6850K, or Intel Core i5 10400

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 6600, or Radeon RX 9060

VRAM: 6GB

System RAM: 12GB

Storage: 115GB SSD

A hardware ray tracing capable GPU is required.

Recommended PC requirements

The Recommended profile targets High settings at 1440p and 60 FPS.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5 11600K

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, or Radeon RX 9060 XT

VRAM: 8GB

System RAM: 16GB

Storage: 115GB SSD

Ultra PC requirements

The Ultra profile targets Ultra settings at 4K and 60 FPS.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D or Intel Core i7 14700K

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT

VRAM: 12GB

System RAM: 16GB

Storage: 115GB SSD

What should you upgrade first?

Storage should be the first check. The game requires an SSD and needs 115GB of free space. An HDD does not meet the official requirement.

If your system already has a capable SSD and at least 16GB of memory, the graphics card is the next component that matters most.

For 1440p, The Coalition recommends the RTX 5060 or RTX 3060 Ti on the NVIDIA side, and the RX 6700 XT or RX 9060 XT on the AMD side.

For 4K Ultra, the official target rises sharply to an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT.

Do you need 32GB of RAM?

Not according to the launch requirements.

The Recommended and Ultra profiles both list 16GB of system memory. Moving to 32GB can still be useful for heavy multitasking, streaming, content creation, browser tabs, and future games, but it is not a requirement for E-Day itself.

The practical upgrade path

If you only want to meet the game requirement, make sure you have an SSD, at least 12GB of RAM, and a hardware ray tracing capable GPU around RTX 2060 or RX 6600 class.

If you want 1440p at 60 FPS, aim closer to the Recommended tier rather than spending immediately on an Ultra class GPU.

If your goal is 4K at 60 FPS on Ultra settings, the official RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT targets are the clearest reference points.
