Free PC Games You Can Claim or Play This Week on Epic Games and Steam

Looking for something new to play without spending anything? There are several PC freebies worth checking this week across the Epic Games Store and Steam.

As of October 6, 2026, Epic is offering BURIED STARS and System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster as full games that can be claimed and kept. Steam's current highlights are different: AION 2 is a newly released free-to-play MMO, while Rotwood and MXGP 26 have limited-time DLC that can be added to your account for free.

The important part is knowing which offers are free to keep, which are free to play, and which require a paid base game.

Epic Games Store: Two Full Games Free to Keep

Epic's current weekly giveaway includes two very different games, and both can be permanently added to your Epic library as long as you claim them before the promotion changes on October 8.

BURIED STARS

BURIED STARS is a mystery adventure game built around a live survival audition show that goes disastrously wrong.

After the broadcast studio collapses, contestants and crew become trapped inside the ruins. A murder then turns the situation into a tense investigation where conversations, relationships, social media reactions, and player choices can reveal clues.

The game combines 2D character artwork with 3D environments and features branching scenarios with multiple endings.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster

If you prefer sci-fi horror, Epic is also giving away System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster.

Nightdive Studios' remaster modernizes the influential FPS/RPG while preserving the original game's survival-horror atmosphere. You wake aboard the Von Braun surrounded by mutants, hostile machines, and the aftermath of a disaster connected to the rogue AI SHODAN.

The remaster includes features such as cross-play co-op, widescreen support, and other modernization work.

Once either Epic game has been claimed during the promotion, it stays attached to that Epic account after the giveaway ends.

Steam: AION 2 Is Free to Play

Steam does not currently have the same kind of weekly full-game giveaway as Epic, but one major free release arrived this week.

AION 2

AION 2 launched on Steam on October 5 as a free-to-play MMORPG.

NC's sequel is built around aerial combat and exploration, with players choosing a faction and fighting across a much larger world than the original AION. The PC version uses Unreal Engine 5 and places a major emphasis on three-dimensional movement and combat.

Because this is a free-to-play release rather than a limited giveaway, there is no October 8 claim deadline.

Offer type: Free to play Release date: October 5, 2026 Important: The game includes in-app purchases.

Steam DLC You Can Add for Free

Steam also has a couple of DLC promotions worth claiming if you own, or plan to own, the required base games.

Rotwood: Drakin Armoury Pack

Klei Entertainment's Rotwood: Drakin Armoury Pack is currently free to keep when added to your Steam account before October 15.

The pack adds the Drakin as a playable species, a Greatsword weapon type, more than 20 Greatsword variants, new weapon powers, a new quest, two minibosses, equipment, and cosmetics.

This is DLC, not the full Rotwood game, so you need the base game to use it.

MXGP 26 - Scrubdesignz Liveries

The MXGP 26 - Scrubdesignz Liveries DLC is also currently discounted to free to keep before October 15.

It adds six SCRUB Designz liveries for bikes in MXGP 26 - The Official Game.

Again, this is not a free copy of MXGP 26 itself. Steam lists the DLC separately and requires the paid base game to use it.

Which Freebie Should You Grab First?

If you have an Epic Games account, there is little reason to skip the two weekly giveaways. You do not have to install them immediately. Claiming them before the promotion ends is enough to keep them in your library.

For a story-driven mystery, BURIED STARS is the more unusual pick.

For players who like immersive sims, classic PC games, sci-fi, or survival horror, System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is the standout offer this week.

On Steam, AION 2 is the option for anyone looking for a new MMO that can be played without buying the game upfront.

The two Steam DLC offers are more situational. They are worth adding if you already own the required games or expect to buy them later, but they are not standalone games.

Quick Free-Game Checklist

• BURIED STARS: Full game, free to keep on Epic before the October 8 giveaway rollover.
• System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster: Full game, free to keep on Epic before the October 8 giveaway rollover.
• AION 2: Free-to-play game on Steam with in-app purchases.
• Rotwood: Drakin Armoury Pack: Free-to-keep Steam DLC before October 15; requires Rotwood.
• MXGP 26 - Scrubdesignz Liveries: Free-to-keep Steam DLC before October 15; requires MXGP 26 - The Official Game.

The Bottom Line

The best deals this week are on Epic Games Store because BURIED STARS and System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster are complete games that can be claimed and kept.

Steam's strongest no-cost option is AION 2, but it is a free-to-play release rather than a temporary giveaway. The Rotwood and MXGP 26 promotions are bonuses for players who own the corresponding base games.

These offers can change quickly, so check the store page before claiming, especially if you are reading this after October 8 or October 15.
