New PC games in 2026 are putting more pressure on storage and graphics hardware than on almost any other component.

Gears of War: E-Day is a useful example. The game requires an SSD, needs 115GB of space, and moves from RTX 2060 or RX 6600 class hardware at the Minimum tier all the way to RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT at the 4K Ultra tier.

That makes SSD and GPU upgrades the two most practical places to spend money if your PC is falling behind.

Which SSD makes the most sense?

The Samsung 990 PRO is a premium PCIe 4.0 option rather than the cheapest SSD available.

Samsung rates the 990 PRO with Heatsink for sequential read speeds up to 7,450 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 6,900 MB/s.

For gaming, the important part is not chasing the highest benchmark number. It is moving away from an HDD or slow SATA setup and having enough fast storage for large modern games.

A 1TB drive can work for a focused game library, but 2TB is more comfortable for current AAA installs.

Which GPU should you buy?

For 1440p gaming, RTX 5070 class hardware is a strong place to start if pricing makes sense.

The Gigabyte RTX 5070 Gaming OC listing is currently ₱64,999, approximately US$1,037.

For a higher performance target, the MSI RTX 5070 Ti Shadow 3X OC is closer to the official 4K Ultra class used by Gears of War: E-Day. The current Shopee listing is ₱89,999, approximately US$1,436.

On the AMD side, the Gigabyte RX 9070 XT Gaming OC is currently listed at ₱60,250, approximately US$962. The RX 9070 XT is also one of the GPU families listed in the E-Day Ultra specification.

NVIDIA or AMD?

The decision depends on the games you play and the features you value.

E-Day supports both NVIDIA and AMD performance technologies. NVIDIA users get DLSS 4.5 features on supported RTX hardware, while AMD FSR is also supported.

If the prices are close, compare actual game benchmarks, VRAM, power requirements, case clearance, warranty, and the features you care about rather than buying based only on the brand.

Do you need both a new SSD and a new GPU?

Not always.

If you already have a good NVMe SSD with enough free space, a faster SSD usually will not transform frame rate.

If your graphics card is below a game minimum or far below the resolution target you want, the GPU is the more meaningful performance upgrade.

If you are still on a hard drive, storage becomes the priority because some current releases now require an SSD.
