AION 2 Passes 400,000 Concurrent Players After Global Launch

AION 2 has crossed a major player milestone only days after its global launch.

NC says the free-to-play MMORPG surpassed 400,000 peak concurrent players after launching globally on October 5.

Steam Alone Nearly Reached 400,000

SteamDB tracking cited by Inven recorded a peak of 397,905 concurrent Steam players on October 5 UTC.

That figure only covers Steam.

AION 2 is also available through NC's PURPLE launcher, and players from Steam and PURPLE share the same global servers.

That helps explain why NC's overall concurrent figure can exceed the Steam-only peak.

A Big Jump From Early Access

Founder's Pack owners received five days of early access beginning September 30.

Inven reported an early-access Steam peak of 171,530.

The October 5 Steam peak therefore represents an increase of more than 226,000 players compared with that early-access high.

Strong Steam Visibility

NC says AION 2 reached the top of Steam's global Top Sellers chart during early access and ranked first in 15 countries and regions.

By October 6, it was also appearing at the top of Steam's New & Trending and free-to-play categories.

That is a strong launch signal, although launch-week player counts do not guarantee the same level of retention weeks or months later.

Free-to-Play Helps Scale Quickly

AION 2 transitioned to free-to-play with the global launch.

That removes the upfront purchase barrier for new players, while Founder's Packs and in-game monetization remain part of the business model.

Player reviews and long-term retention will matter more once the initial launch rush settles.

The Bottom Line

AION 2 has had a very large global debut.

NC says total peak concurrency passed 400,000, while SteamDB tracked 397,905 concurrent users on Steam alone.

The next question is whether the MMORPG can keep a substantial portion of that audience after launch-week curiosity fades.
